Language Requirements
English-Proficiency Requirement
If your three most recent years of full-time education have been in a language other than English, you must submit a minimum score on an English-language test or submit an academic English preparation program that meets Laurier's minimum requirements.
You may request an exemption if have successfully studied in an English-language school system on a full-time basis for a minimum of three years, without completing any English as a Second Language courses. If it has been more than 2 years since the completion of this education, we will request an English language test.
We reserve the right to request a test of English proficiency when reviewing your application.
Conditional Offers of Admission
If you meet the academic requirements for your program but do not meet Laurier’s English language requirement, you may receive an offer of admission that is conditional upon completing the LEAF program. You must first be eligible for LEAF program levels 3, 4 or 5 to receive an offer. After successfully completing level 5, you can begin studying in your program full time.
Laurier English & Academic Foundation (LEAF) Program
The LEAF program is an academic English program designed to prepare you for success in university. You begin in a LEAF program level according to your most recent English proficiency test score. The LEAF program is offered at the Brantford campus.
In Level 5 of the LEAF program, you are required to complete a course for credit, which helps you get a head start towards completing your degree. To complete the LEAF program successfully, you must achieve a minimum grade of 70% in each LEAF program course, complete a half-credit university course and obtain a minimum overall average of 70% in Level 5.

LEAF Program Terms
There are two 14-week terms (fall and winter) and two 8-week intensive summer terms in each calendar year. The 14-week terms are the same length as our fall and winter undergraduate terms, allowing LEAF program students to interact with both domestic and international students during the busiest times of the year.

Offers of Admission for Ontario High School Students
Basic Requirements for Admission
- To calculate your admission average, we consider your top six 4U/M courses.
- Some programs include the required courses in your top 6. See your program of interest on OUInfo for more information.
- You must have a 4U English at 60% (higher for some programs).
- All required courses must be at 60% (or higher where applicable).
- Each program has specific admission requirements.
Applicant Background Summary (ABS) Form
If your average is below the minimum requirement for your program, your extracurricular information could help you gain admission. This form can be found and submitted online in your applicant portal. More information is provided to applicants in their confirmation of application email from Laurier. The last day to submit the ABS form is: April 27, 2022.
Special Case or Extenuating Circumstances
If recent or present circumstances have impacted your ability to achieve a strong academic standing, you may submit a personal statement in your applicant portal after you apply.
Failed and Repeated Courses
If you are applying to a program in the Faculty of Science or the Lazaridis School of Business and Economics, we consider repeated courses when calculating your admission average. We use a weighted average of your first and latest course attempts for required courses only. (Required courses are listed in your program's admission requirements). If you repeat a course that is not required for admission, we use your highest grade. For all other programs and faculties, we use your highest grade in any repeated courses.
Timing and Process for Admission Decisions
Admission decisions are made on an ongoing basis using available grade information. Your offer of admission is conditional upon your final grades.
December and January
- Admission is based on your best five 3U/M courses.
- You must be enrolled in all 4U/M required courses for your program.
February and March
- Admission is based on your best six 3U/M and/or 4U/M courses, including a minimum of three 4U/M courses.
- You must be enrolled in all 4U/M required courses required for your program.
April and May
- Admission is based on your best six 4U/M courses, including your second-semester midterm grades if applicable.
- For some programs, required courses are included in your admission average.

Alternate Offers
We automatically consider you for admission to an alternate program if you aren’t eligible for your program of choice.
Wait Lists
Laurier may use wait lists for competitive programs. If you are placed on a wait list, you’ll also receive an offer of admission to an alternate program.
Transfer Credits
If you previously attended a postsecondary institution, you will be notified of your transfer credit assessment with your offer of admission. IB and AP students may be eligible for transfer credits.
